S&B Chili Oil with Crunchy Garlic is a jarred Japanese-style chili condiment that blends mild, toasty heat with crunchy fried garlic for seasoning, dipping, and finishing dishes.
This two-pack contains two 3.9 oz jars of S&B's taberu rayu—an accessible chili oil designed to add aromatics, texture, and umami without overwhelming spice. Made in Japan, the oil combines corn and sesame oils with fried garlic, chili pepper flakes, and savory enhancers to create a versatile pantry staple. Use it as a topping for noodles, dumplings, soups, and stir-fries or stir a spoonful into dressings, marinades, and grain bowls for immediate flavor lift.
How does this chili oil change the flavor and texture of dishes?
The product layers toasted oil and sesame notes with crunchy bits of fried garlic and onion, giving both mouthfeel and flavor. Instead of only adding heat, it contributes savory depth and a satisfying crunch that contrasts with softer ingredients like rice or noodles.
- Crunchy fried garlic and onion pieces for added texture.
- Savory elements—soy powder and seasoning extracts—boost umami.
- Blended oils (corn and sesame) provide a nutty, rounded base.
- Mild chili presence suitable for those who prefer less aggressive heat.
What are the best ways to use S&B Chili Oil with Crunchy Garlic?
This oil works as both a finishing condiment and a cooking ingredient. It can be spooned directly onto prepared foods or incorporated early in the cooking process to infuse other ingredients with flavor.
- Dollop over ramen, udon, or cold noodle salads for instant flavor.
- Mix into stir-fries and sauces to add both oil and crunchy bits.
- Serve alongside gyoza or dumplings as a dipping condiment.
- Stir a teaspoon into dressings, marinades, or grain bowls for extra depth.
What is inside the jar and are there allergen considerations?
The ingredient list blends corn oil, sesame oil, chili pepper, fried garlic and onion, soy-based powder, sugar, and almond among other components. If you have nut or soy allergies, check labels carefully since the formulation includes almond and soy ingredients.
- Contains sesame and almond — potential allergens for some users.
- Includes flavor enhancers and soy-based powder for savory taste.
- Made in Japan following S&B's ingredient sourcing and production standards.
- Store in a cool, dry place; refrigerate after opening if desired for freshness.
How spicy is the chili oil and who will enjoy it?
The heat level is intentionally moderate, offering a warm background rather than intense burn. It's ideal for eaters who want chili flavor plus crunchy texture without overwhelming spice, and for cooks seeking a ready-made way to lift everyday meals.
- Described as mild-to-medium heat—approachable for many palates.
- Good for families, home cooks, and those expanding their condiment collection.
- Works well in fusion-style dishes as well as traditional Japanese preparations.
- Pack of two jars provides kitchen backup or giftable pairings.
